Misfit Toybox

Hi, I’m Rain. I’m 29, based in Sussex (UK), and a self-proclaimed weirdo who has always been the odd one out in the room.

I’m AuDHD, queer, gothic, and deeply in love with nature, animals, art, dolls, music, and tattoos. My favourite films are Labyrinth (the greatest movie ever made — I will not be taking feedback on this), The Goonies, and Coraline. I’m socially awkward and rely heavily on sarcasm as a coping mechanism.

I spent my twenties having absolutely no idea who I was. I spent my life masking, shrinking, and hiding the things I loved to fit into spaces where I was never really accepted. This all began to change when I started Therapy, got an AUDHD diagnosis, and accepted the support from my incredible husband. Turns out, there is actually a couple of great men out there! I finally began learning who I actually was — and somehow became the version of myself that 12-year-old me would have thought was impossibly cool. This has been a long journey that I am still working hard on every day.

Before this, I worked in a corporate job that drained me. I showed up as a different version of myself every day just to fit a template that was never made for someone like me. Creating art became my rebellion. I started customising creepy dolls — the kind that would feel wildly out of place on a toy shop shelf — to prove that “ugly,” “weird,” and “strange” can still be lovable and beautiful. These are my misfits.

With Misfit Toybox, I wanted to create a space for people like me to exist loudly and safely. A place to feel seen, accepted, and at home. If you’re neurodivergent, queer, weird, gothic, riddled with anxiety, or voting Green — you’re in the right place.
